Vata, meaning wind, or 'to move' is the energy of movement residing in us and the universe. Because Vata governs mobility, it is responsible for all activity that takes place in the body and mind.
Consider the countless processes that occur inside your body every day and you will begin to realize the power of Vata and that your very existence relies upon it! This energy initiates breathing, blinking, the beating of your heart, blood flow, the movement of food through the digestive tract, the impulse to move, waste elimination, menstruation and it is the conductor of the mind; just to name a few! Aren't you filled with gratitude and awe?!
Vata is made up of the elements of Air (Vayu) & Space (Akasha), causing Vata to impart the qualities of Lightness, Dryness and Coolness. When Vata is balanced in a being, this person brings freshness, light-heartedness, flexibility, creativity and an uplifted energy to life. But when Vata goes out of balance through overstimulation of the senses, too much mind activity, trauma or a way of being that is simply out of sync with the natural rhythms of the Universe, you might notice this person is overcome with internal and outer agitation, fear, anxiety, panic attacks, shakiness, irregular digestion or constipation, intestinal cramping, muscle spasms, dry skin, spaciness, forgetfulness, painful menstruation, fatigue and insomnia.
Through the application of Vata-pacifying Ayurvedic techniques, treatments, routines and medicine, Vata can be coaxed back into balance and maintained; free-flowing with the waves of life, yet anchored in the stability of the inner Self.
In our extensive apothecary–our natural pharmacy–you can reclaim your right to mother nature’s medicine in the form of wonderful Vata-Pacifying goodness. The following are available at The Pale Blue Dot:
